So basically...
"Why Fit the Mold?" is a brand created by Jack Hemphill as an umbrella for all his creative ventures. It's a label... and a mantra... and it's his philosophy on creativity summed up into one question. Simple? Not really... but hopefully you get what I'm saying.

Now that you know what the heck this "Why Fit the Mold?" thing is, let's learn about Jack Hemphill.

Hey! I'm Jack. I'm from the Twin Cities of Minnesota (Minneapolis/St. Paul). I'm a Junior at the Savannah College of Art and Design AKA SCAD, in Savannah, Georgia. When I first came to SCAD I didn't really know what I wanted to do. All I knew was that I loved art, was good at it, and that I NEEDED to get out of the arctic tundra where I was born.
After switching my major a few times within the first semester at school, I decided to study Advertising and Branding for the next four years. Now I wish I could say that this is because I have wanted to be an Advertising Art Director since I was a child, or that I had a dream one night and knew at that moment that I was supposed to be an Art Director... but the truth is, I was watching Black-ish, and the main character, Andre, works at an Ad agency. Watching that show I thought "Hmmm... this looks cool" so I did some research and found out that people who work at ad agencies typically make decent money, have a platform to do good and effect change, and lastly, do both those things through art and creativity. So I really have Kenya Barris to thank for my career choice.

Now... I love sports... especially basketball, football, and track & field... but really anything athletic I'm a fan of, so sports-centered advertising is my dream job. More important than sports, however, my favorite thing in the world is helping people. Artistically, I am very drawn to the work of Hiro Murai, Donald Glover, Jordan Peele, PG Lang, Cole Bennett, Kim Gehrig, Dave Meyers, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kendrick Lamar, and others. I love being involved in humanitarian efforts, mission trips, and helping people start and/or improve their businesses. I also am very passionate about traveling, staying active, and learning new trades/tools.

Speaking of, let me tell you about all the things I know how to do. (Wow I'm good at changing the subject) but seriously, check me out. At a very young age, I started drawing and coloring and all of that, just your typical artistic kid. After a while, I "learned" how to do some graffiti, eventually some painting, a little woodworking, and plenty of other things. I wasn't taking anything very seriously until I turned 12 years old when I got tired of my mom's haircuts and decided to learn how to give myself a fade. After a few bad haircuts, a few okay haircuts, and a few good ones, I finally perfected the self-fade. After that, I thought to myself "Maybe I should learn how to do some more things!" At about 14 years old I started to get really into painting and drawing, partly thanks to my cousin who motivated me a lot. Then at 16, I started getting interested in tattoos. It probably wasn't the best idea, but at 16 and a half I decided that I had watched enough YouTube videos so I tattooed Tupac's Queen Nefertiti on my thigh. Since 16 I have worked on everything from painting to barbering to animating to tattooing and everything in between. As long as it's a visual art form I make it my goal to do it and do it great.

I am Adobe certified, with experience in After Effects, Premier Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and I have worked with Figma since 2023. I am a dedicated, hard-working, cooperative designer and I make things look good... really, really good.
